Baptism at St Michael Smarden or All Saints Biddenden

Children

We are delighted you are considering bringing your child for baptism. If you unsure about what this involves, the rector Alex Bienfait will be happy to meet and discuss this with you.

Baptisms normally take place at our main Family services on the 2nd Sunday of the month at Biddenden, 3rd Sunday of the month at Smarden, both at 11am. However, we recognise these times may not be convenient and so we set aside an additional baptism slot, generally the first Saturday of the month at noon.

In order to book a baptism it would be great to meet you and for you to be familiar with our services, so come along to a Sunday morning service. Children are welcome at all our services. There you can then pick up a baptism application form – they are kept at the back of the church.

Once you have returned your application form, we will arrange a time to discuss the baptism and go through the details of service.

Children who live outside the parish

Baptism requires parents to make a serious commitment about the way they bring children up within the church family. The Church of England therefore recommends that the best place for baptism is locally to where you and the child live. If you live outside our parishes, we might therefore ask you to make contact with your local church before arranging a baptism with us.

Adults

There is no maximum or minimum age for baptism. If you are an adult who is thinking about baptism, the rector Alex Bienfait will look forward to discussing this with you.
